AKHIL BHARATIYA VIDYARTHI PARISHAD (ABVP) is an India student organization. It aims to build an ideal student movement which works in the wider context of National Reconstruction, in the field of education with a firm belief in constructive activity, in the existence of educational community and in the need to stay above partisan politics.

Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe attended Garware College and S P College in Pune and later Ramnarayan Ruia College, Mumbai. He started his career in public life with ABVP. He had joined ABVP in 1974 immediately after joining Degree College in Pune. He has held different positions in ABVP during his long and illustrious journey as listed below:

He also shouldered the responsibility of Chhatra Shakti Magazine for some years. Dr. Sahasrabuddhe worked whole time for ABVP between1980-85. 

In 1975, after the imposition of the draconian rule of emergency as ABVP activist, Dr. Sahasrabuddhe offered Sattyagraha (silent public protest violating law followed by arrest). He was behind the bars at Yerwada Prison near Pune for about 45 days. Later, in 1983, he was a part of mass protest against the ban on an ABVP rally at Guwahati, in support of the agitating students of Assam, fighting for the detection and deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrators followed by the deletion of their names.

While pursuing his post-graduation (1978-80), Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe also worked with India News and Features Alliance (INFA), a features service by Inder Jit; as its Mumbai representative.
