Caste and community issues continue to dominate public discourse around assembly elections in UP and other states. Identity issues do influence voter behaviour. But media as public educator also has the responsibility to orient such discourse. To bring issues of development and the aspirations of the younger generation into focus. This will prevent widening of traditional societal cleavages and also contribute to voter education.
